About Grass Trees
The Grass Tree is an ancient and iconic Australian plant which makes a beautiful and unique addition to any garden whether it be a native bush garden or a modern landscape design.
A prominent feature of the native Australian bush landscape, Grass Trees are important to Aboriginal people across Australia with the flower spikes traditionally being used as fishing spears, seed pods used as cutting tools and resin used as a glue in spear making or patching water containers.
The unique appearance of the Grass Tree has now made it a favourite of architects and designers due to the sculptural flair these plants bring to a modern garden design.
Grass Trees are slow growing, about 1cm per year, meaning a 1m tall Grass Tree is 100 years old! They are often very long lived and some are estimated to be up to 450 years old.
